West York is a borough in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,617 at the 2010 census.[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2), all of it land.
West York Police Department (WYPD) is a full-time and full service municipal law enforcement agency that provides 24/7 hour patrol, emergency response and investigative functions within the confines of the Borough of West York. The ranking structure of the WYPD is Chief of Police, Sergeant, Corporal and then Patrolman. The department currently consists of 15 sworn police officers.
The WYPD currently utilizes three marked black 2008 Dodge Charger Pursuits and 1 unmarked Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (CVPI) vehicles for patrol, investigative and administrative duties. The WYPD recently added a military surplus 1986 Chevrolet 5 1/4 ton 4x4 M1010 ambulance truck as a Police Utility/Paddy Wagon and for patrol operations during deep snow. The WYPD also utilizes Gary Fisher and Trek police equipped mountain bicycles for patrol operations.
Reliance Fire Co. (Station 1) is West York's only fire department and is made up of paid and volunteer firefighters. They have an E-one ladder truck, an E-One engine, a white Ford utility truck, and a white unmarked Chevy Tahoe as the duty officer vehicle.
As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 4,321 people, 1,897 households, and 1,088 families residing in the borough. The population density was 8,759.7 people per square mile (3,404.8/km²). There were 2,010 housing units at an average density of 4,074.8 per square mile (1,583.8/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 93.75% White, 2.80% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 1.37% from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.96% of the population.
There were 1,897 households out of which 30.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.4% were married couples living together, 13.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.6% were non-families. 35.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the borough the population was spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 34.6% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 87.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.7 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $34,604, and the median income for a family was $41,574. Males had a median income of $30,734 versus $22,338 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $17,503. About 5.0% of families and 6.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.9% of those under age 18 and 4.8% of those age 65 or over.
West York is served by the West York Area School District. Athletic teams in the district are the Bulldogs.
